plenty of Americans like to think we are the most helpful and giving nation , but that's just not true. we do give alot , but in comparison it's a drop .
(aside from the percent we give as being low to what we make , America it seems has a problem of pledging monies and then having the check bounce so to speak.)
USA’s aid, in terms of percentage of their GNP has almost always been lower than any other industrialized nation in the world, though paradoxically since 2000, their dollar amount has been the highest. (Only since 2004 have they move up from last place, by one.)
Since 1992, Japan had been the largest donor of aid, in terms of raw dollars. That was until 2001 when the United States reclaimed that position, a year that also saw Japan’s amount of aid drop by nearly 4 billion dollars (as tables and charts below will also show).
(alot of what the USA claims is aid goes to Iraq. that shouldn't count since we screwed it up in the first place.)
here are the rank of aid by country.
Rank Countries Amount (top to bottom)
#1 Luxembourg: $496.59 per capita
#2 Denmark: $366.93 per capita
#3 Norway: $303.63 per capita
#4 Netherlands: $242.55 per capita
#5 Sweden: $188.54 per capita
#6 Ireland: $149.43 per capita

#11 Austria: $83.12 per capita
#12 Canada: $78.55 per capita
#13 Finland: $72.45 per capita
#14 Japan: $69.82 per capita

I can't speak for the U.S. As the Canadian public is made up of all races you will find our input everywhere there is need. In fact I would challenge every one out there to find a country that contributes more per person to international aid than Canadians. We even help our rich neighbours when they have disasters.

usually a country starts off defending its own self. for example if indonesia had a flood. the indonesian government wud help first. sometimes third or second world countries struggle with these natural disasters and how to save people equally.
so the UN ( united nations) will discuss the topic and many countries near by indonesia will donate cloths money food, etc.some countries like US or UK will do it to keep public relations with the countries ( and not have them against the them in wars etc.)
some other countries discuss plans in which they can aide the people
they have discussions even within indonesia about clean up and restorations
overall people are usually willing to help the needy ..or if the US ( more people support us as "friends..."
however us doesnt donate like it boasts.

The US and Americans think they help, but as a percentage of the GDP America is the stingiest donor and contributor of foreign aid in the developed world.
We are better known for warfare, bombings and violence if anything.
As a percentage of its population Americans also travel the least (70% of us don't have passports).
In sheer number terms Scandinavian countries are generous.
Spiritually, is a subjective matter.
Of course, everyone thinks they help and are great, generous, etc. Numbers tell another story.

The U.S. contributes more to the world in aid, appeasement, politics, etc. We contribute more than Europe, Asia and all others. Isn't it great that, providing you pay taxes, you give away you earnings for others to reap benefits. You know, if we all took care of our own problems, and a few reasonable others, we could all be happy. We really shouldn't be in the rebuilding business, did the Middle East Muslims rebuild the WTC? Just a thought.
