scientists don't relaly know for sure but i think it does KINDA help sweat from dripping down. it makes it go down the sides of the face instead of in your eyes. maybe.

It's apparently leftover from our ancestors. I think they were meant to protect our eyes, filter the debris away, somthing like that. We can do without them though.
