Most movies are scheduled for a three month shoot. Some are longer, some are shorter. A lot of it depends on the availability of locations and the distances a cast and crew will have to travel. ( Lawrence of Arabia, for example, took nearly two years to film.) The real work comes after the shoot. It often takes technicians more than a year to edit a project, add sound effects and music and generally polish the work for release.
