There have been many people of African descent to play in the NHL. Currently, two that come immediately to mind are Anson Carter and Georges Laraque, as well someone has mentioned Johnny Oduya in New Jersey who is a rookie. Fred Brathwaite is a goaltender who has also played in the NHL and was of African descent. Mike Grier for the Sharks in San Jose is another. There are many, past and present, African NHLers.

PETER WORRELL, fought brad may after the bertuzzi incident, has only played that year so far, 6'6 and something like 235lbs of pure toughness.

He's in the minors currently

ps. Canucks suck, Their goalie is just too good, and thats why I love them! GO 'NUCKs. If we had 2 or 3 more awesome players. Stanley Cup would be a Shoe-in. Now it's prolly gonna be a first or second round exit.

Someone asked a similar question earlier and I did the research on it.

Willie O'Ree was the first back in 1958.
Mike Marson was next in 1974.
Sadly they were Canadian, eh.

Donald Brashear in 1992 was the first American.
Mike Grier is the only other American I know of.

I think I found 17 black players in the league.

BTW - Jarome Iginla led the league in scoring just a few years ago and was on the cover of EA sports Hockey.
