Checks and balances were put into our system of govt to guarantee that no single brance of govt could take over. The exec. branch ( the pres), the legislative (congress) and the courts, who are not elected, cannot be kicked out, etc. They are all supposed to keep an eye out for abuses of power. It has all gone to hell now. The legislature is not doing their job controlling the president who has turned into a dictator. Hopefully, congress will start to do their job more now that the Dems are in.

Each branch of the US Federal Govt.: The Executive Branch (the President), the Legislative Branch (Congress) & the Judicial Branch (Supreme court) are all suppose to balance each other out because, in theory, no branch is suppose to have more power over the other & if one branch looks like it is getting too much power there are things that they can do to "check" or reduce that power down to normal levels. For instance, Presidents can veto a bill sent to them by congress but if congress gets 2/3 majority vote in favor of that bill then it will be passed but that is very hard to do.

Each branch of government has a power check on each other. Only Liberals dislike this. They wish to implement all their psycho policies through the Judiciary. That's why we have to elect Republicans!

Checks are small pieces of paper which you pay bills with. The money comes right out of your checking account.
Balances are what high wire circus performers do.
