The answer is gasoline. Diesel is laden with sulfur. Turns into sulfur dioxide when burned, which produces acid rain. Of course, you can argue that BIO-diesel is better for the environment because you are growing food to make fuel. But then it takes energy to make the crops into fuel, so the benefit may be a break-even scenario.
The real answer is none of the above. But that does not really generate much enthusiasm. I am a proponent of fuel alternatives, like wind energy to create electricity for cars. That way there is less dependence on foreign oil, and less of a burden on the environment.

Diesel puts out less carbon monoxide(CO)- the poisonous gas than a gas one. It is the difference the "way the motor works". There are more additives added to gasoline(they use to add lead) to boost octane.
Diesel is observed to be dirtier because of the visible black smoke coming out of the stacks....that is not completely burned fuel when lots of fuel is needed to pull a load up a hill or acceleration. But the black smoke particles are heavy and land on the ground. It isn't an invisible poisonous gas. The smoking is almost negligible with the new cars.....so there is the consideration of "how much" exhaust is being emitted. Diesels generally get better fuel economy than gas, so less fumes over the distance travelled(as the diesel still has a half tank of fuel when the gas car's tank is empty)

Neither.
The simplest thing to do if you're concerned is to break your addiction to the motor car. Use public transport. If you live too far away from your work to do this, consider becoming a Telecommuter and working from home if you can.
If you can't break your addiction, you can make biodiesel at home very easily and cheaply. the ingredients are dead easy to get - used oil from a deep fryer like you find in any cafe which makes french fries, Methanol and caustic soda. Do a Google search to find a recipe - they're a bit too complex for this forum!
The thing about diesel engines is that they weren't designed to run on petrochemicals. Rudi Diesel invented them back in 1898 or thereabouts and his main fuel source was Peanut Oil, but any oil will do. I agree that there is a cost to the environment in the production of such fuels, but it is surely the lesser of the two evils!!
One last point - running a diesel engine on Biodiesel requires NO modifications. There are some who suggest that you need to replace all the seals more often but this is no reason to be fearful!
Lastly, there are ZERO emissions from burning biodiesel except a wonderful smell! When a car goes past that's burning it, you would swear that someone is cooking french fries!!!
Hope this helps!

Jarrah

Of the two fuels Gasoline is the cleaner burning of the two. Diesel relies on pressure to ignite and whenever the exhaust brake of a diesel engine is engaged the raw fuel / air is not compressed and released thru the exhaust. If you purchase either one you can greatly reduce emissions by using pure acetone (commonly used as fingernail polish remover). Add 2 ounces for every 10 gallons of fuel put in your tank. The acetone acts as a catalyst to break the surface tension in the fuel resulting in a higher percentage of fuel mixing with the air. This makes the engine burn 100% of the fuel and when this happens the horsepower goes up, compression is higher and fuel efficiency will increase as much as 30 mpg!! Do a search for the keywords "acetone as fuel additive" and you will see what im talking about.

Biodiesel sucks Just anotherway to push this envirocrap on us . Diesel does burn cleaner but as of now most states do not control emmissions for diesel . So what comes out the pipe is not as clean. My 500hp mack blows black soot all the time. But they will soon then we will all have to spend a ton more money to be able to haul anything .Just another way for the government to steal a few more dollars out of the working mans pocket.

is electrical powered an decision? In Nepal, a minimum of in Kathmandu, electric powered vehicles definately. before everything, kathmandu is a small place, and so a vehicle that provide you 70-80 km in line with day is wonderful. additionally, the roads are small, and actual get congested, and subsequently severe speeds of fifty+ kmph isn't mandatory.Secondly, Nepal has to import all petroleum products, and those are truly costly, regardless of the subsidies provided by ability of the government, which has truly pushed Nepal Oil association into heavy debt. different than for which you besides mght have issues alongside with toxins, worldwide warming, wellbeing matters. additionally, i'm guessing here, electrical energy is greater fee-effective to run your motor vehicle with, while in comparison with petrol and diesel.
