The other answer has explained it well, but I will add so you can try to remember: when you see an "of" it usually means that the method to the answer will be multiplication. When you multiply, you are finding a total number when you have a certain amount "of" a set. Like, 2 sets OF 3 = 6. So 25% is 25% of the number 1. That's why you express it as the decimal fraction: 0.25. Then you are multiplying that portion of the number 1 with the amount to find out your answer.

You could also express the percentage as a fraction, which in this case would be easy (but sometimes is not an even fraction, so it's harder). 25% is 1/4, so you multiply 1/4 x 315/1, getting 315/4, then you do that division to narrow your answer down to a whole number. Making percentages into fractions will work for easy things like 1/4 or 1/2 (50%), but otherwise it tends to be more trouble than the decimal fraction multiplication.

I hope this helps you understand why you take the steps described above (and that it doesn't confuse you instead!)

Well.... 25% of something is 1 out of 4 parts (or one-fourth), so divide 315 by 4. or multiply 315 by .25 and don't forget to carry the decimal over and round to the nearest place value.

Percentages like 10%, 20% 25%, 50% are rather easy because you can divide the whole number by 10, 5, 4, or 2 respectively if calculators are a no-no for your assignment. Try it - it works!

Percentage represents how much of something there is in a whole. It is the division of a number given such as 25% divided by 100. So if we have 25% this would equal to 25/100 = 0.25 . Now if we have 25 % of 315 dollar this means you take the 0.25 and multiply by $315. This would be 0.25 x 315 =78.75. In other words this is a quarter of 315 dollars.

Okay think of it like this: 25%=.25. So all you have to do to figure the percent of something is move the decimal two places to the left and multipy and then move the desimal in the answer two places to the right for the percent. Example: 25% of $315.00 =. 25 x 315= $78.75. Check it since 25% is one fourth devide by 1/4 See?

Percent questions are usually very easy to solve. For example, 25% of 315 would be like dividing 315 by 4 = 78.75. If you wanted 20%, you would divide by 5. If you want 10%, you would divide by 10. I hope this helps.

Per cent means hundredths. Anytime you want to find any per cent of anything, multiply that number (315) by the per cent (25) with a decimal point. Remember, "of" means "times." So, 25% of $315 means .25 X 315. 17% of $94 would be .17 X 94. That is all there is to it. Just don't forget the decimal point.

ok, this is how you solve this problem you take 25% and change it to a decimal, and the way that you do that you shift your decimal two places to the left. Then you would get .25. Then when you get that you multiply 315 by .25 and when u do that you would get your answer.

First convert the percent to a decimal. You do this buy dividing it by 100:
ie: 25% = 25/100 = .25
5% = 5/100 = .05

Then, multiply whatever you are trying to find the percent of by the decimal number you have found
ie: 5% of $100 = .05 x 100 = $5
