Cal Poly San Luis Obispo has a great reputation in Silicon Valley for Mechanical Engineering. The companies I've worked at try to get graduates from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Every engineer I've met from that school have proved themselfs to be very good at their job. The other two schools on your list don't seen to have the same reputation in this area. And those other 2 schools are not targeted by silicon valley recruiters the way CPSLO is. That doesn't mean they aren't good but in this area, CPSLO stands out from all the other schools. The only school that has a better reputation in Silicon Valley for Mechanical Engineering is Cal Berkeley.

Go to one of the Cal Poly's. They have better reps in general over Long Beach State, particularly in engineering.

I'm not sure what sdcharger is talking about. All 3 schools are Cal States.

UCI is the utmost engineering college on your record, via an prolonged way. yet Cal Poly Pomona does now not suck. Is Cal Poly SLO on your community? they're larger ranked than Pomona, and are worth on condition that.

In order of reputation:
1. SLO
2. Pomona
3. LB

These 3 aren't the best schools in CA for engineering. If you have the grades, try Berkeley, Cal Tech, Stanford, or UCLA.

i have a friend who went to cal poly san luis obisbo and she said that the first two years are tough becuase you take your major and minor classes then, but the last two years are really easy becuase its general ed. Do not go to cal state.

Good choice young man. A mighty good profession to enter.
I would choose California State Long Beach because it would more than likely have a wider selection of courses to choose from as electives. Especially, if you (unfortunately) decide to change your major.

Which ever school you decide to go to, I have but one thing to say. And that is to study, study, study! The world is your oyster. So, start cracking. Books that is.
