I may be totally off with this but infinity reminded me of a type of decorative light fixture which was more artsy than a viable light source.

The structure was basically a shadow box perhaps 3 inches deep, and in this case it may have been square. At the back of the box was a mirror that fit entirely. Around the inside of the box were what may have been white christmas lights, and the face was glass covered. As I recall the entire structure was painted black.

As I'm thinking this however there must have been other mirrors, unless the back of the clear glass front was refelctive to the inside, because what one could see was a series of these lights in a vanishing perspective way.
