I've been playing for about 2 years now and want to get a better guitar. I play anything from metal to country. I currently have a Fender Squire. I want a better guitar that is at a reasonable price.

I'd go for a Les Paul, you don't need the upper models yet. Start on the ground floor. Some would suggest a Strat - I'm a Gibson fan. I've had a lot of them. Right now my favorite is a ES336 - It's a lot like a ES335, but it has a carved arch instead of a pressed arch, some old style humbuckers, and a head that reduces stress on the strings. They're hard to find, it's custom built through the Gibson factory, they have to be ordered.

Do you like the sound of the Fender? Then maybe move up to an American Strat. I'm guessing they start at around $1000.00 but a MAJOR upgrade from the squire.

I also have a Squire and it performs well. I do miss my Ibanez RG270 though. It was a good solid guitar with a Floyd Rose and I picked it up at a pawn shop for a song.

A used American Series Fender Stratocaster or Telecaster. You "might" have to replace the pickups to your taste, but that is not too expensive.
