I assume you are using a broadband connection (Cable, DSL, etc.).
You need:
1-Ethernet card for each PC (wired or wireless)
1-Router (wired or wireless)
2-ethernet cable capable of connecting the individual PCs to the router (necessary only if a wired connection is your choice)
1-ethernet cable connecting the Modem to the Router.
Router - required due to the fact that you are only provided one ip address by your cable/DSL service provider.
Wired vs Wireless - wireless while more convenient is subject to quirks like how far from the router, different types of obstructions between the router and the PC, interference produced by other household appliances. Wired if you don't damage the cables you're OK.

Good Luck

Simple. A router bought from any electronics retail store. If you need help ask a salesperson. The harder way would be to buy a crossover cable to directly connect the two NIC's. Depending on how far apart the computers are and your need for internet I'd stick with the first option.
