How long does it take for the baby to become fully engaged?

At my midwife appt. on monday, she said the baby was 1/5th engaged. (1/5th the way down under my pelvis bone). Is there any way to help him go futher down? How long did it take people for their baby to become fully engaged? (and how long did it take for you to go into labour after that?)

The best way to help his head get further engaged is to walk. Walk as much as you possibly can.
