I feel validated reading the answers to your question. The soul has disappeared from the parade.

I had the same impression. It's been too commercialized and not as fun as years past when the sound of firecrackers punctuated the air, you saw local kung fu schools demonstrating their stuff with the lions and serpents and St. Mary's girls marching drum & bells corp provided the central part of the parade and the worst things were only a few politicians sitting in their cars, the crowds, traffic congestion and firecrackers thrown willy nilly.

i thought it was a little comercialized too....a lot of companies sponsored people to walk the parade, and you see their flags/banners...in fact, i volunteered for the parade, and i had to carry a flag for a sponsor of the parade...aka advertising for a bank, b/c they sponsored a group of kids....

and there were a group of people from a gay association..but im not sure if they got on tv..

Too many Chinese people! I am for less Chinese people in the parade... More gay and lesbians...liberals and communists...Democrats and Green Party...all OK.
