No brain damage or anything like that, but the shock wave and (for them) loud sound causes considerable stress. Tapping a tank should be avoided if at all possible.

It won't cause brain damage but will cause stress and fear that could frighten the fish.

No, but it can scare the fish, and possible put in into shock, causing it to die.

I imagine all animals have feelings of some sort. I would think the water would distort your image and scare the crap out of the fish.

It's like putting a bell over your head and striking it, sound travels up to 7 times faster under water, that it does through a gas (Air).

YES it does. I did research on that actually..that is why they swim away from the side when you tap!!!!
