Because for the most part, they understand better than anyone that it's not fun when people are mean to you. Do unto others.

I'm a gay guy and I'll answer this based on experience. Before I came out, most of my friends were girls. It worked for me for awhile. After I came out, I forged some friendships and relationships with gay guys and eventually I developed some solid bonds with some of my straight male peers.
Here's what experience has taught me. The gay guys that I've dealt with in my life were cruder, more self-absobed, more uptight, pettier, more superficial, and more ready to betray a gay male friend. Its like women and gay men see different sides of gay men. Most get along great with women but not other guys, unless they're in a relationship or something.
To me straight men have, contrary to stereotypes, been more compassionate, more accepting, and more laid back. In fact it is my straight guy friends who have really helped me embrace being gay. As one of my friends put it, "I can't imagine you being any other way." There's a stronger sense of brotherhood and trust.
Those are just my thoughts from my experience, as controversial as they may be.

it is the situation with bigotry, if its used as passive bigotry, as you're utilising it, its rather extra socially ideal to the extra ignorant people of the international. i've got met some actual scumbags who take place to be gay and a few somewhat noble people who take place to be promptly. What does sexual orientation could do with ones demeanor? It particularly irks me that persons with this type of mindset nonetheless evaluate themselves to be open minded and have not been put in their place extra frequently for being the homophobes that they are. i could to boot ask why such particularly some promptly women seem to categorize gay adult males as being cute and cuddly non-threatoning playmates? Hmmmmmmm

Most gay people are nice, but some are not; and most straight people are nice, but some are not.
Gay people may be more understanding towards other people due to gay people being victims of discrimination and/or harassment.

Some gay guys are nice, some gay guys are mean.
Some straight guys are nice, some straight guys are mean.
From experience, I have found my gay guy friends to be more petty and gossipy than my straight guy friends. But yes, they tend to be more understanding and sensitive as well.

That's just as stereotypical as saying 'all gay men are mean' or 'all nice guys are gay'. Why is it that we only notice stereotyping when it has a negative connotation?

I don't feel the need to be mean to anyone. It's not productive. That's not to say I don't have mean thoughts. Most of the time I don't. But there are times when i'm not feeling good (right now) that I'm going to let you say something stupid and get away with it.
