Why the construcion of the freeway is not important part in the history of United States in comparison with the rail road and from where the idea of the construction of freeway came.

Hitler invented the modern freeway as we know it. It was part of his plans to make it easier to move the military across Germany.

The modern Freeway system was begun under Dwight Eisenhower in the 1950s.

The idea was actually inspired by the Autobahns in Germany, which were built during the administration of You-Know-Who. Well, at least he made things run on time.

Interstates are regarded as one of the more significant technological developments of the 20th century. It's just that most history classes don't get past WW2.

in aditon to all the stuff said about eisenhower, did you know that 1 mile out of every five miles of highway is straight in case it needs to be used as an emergency runway? i learned that watching the history channel.
