You have to follow your heart on this one, and not let what other people think determine your decision. Both teams or one of the other it's totally up to you. I'm a die hard Giants fan myself. I can't afford to like two teams even if I wanted to, but if I grew up liking both. Then I would have no problem doing so. Go Giants

I live in a small town about equal distance between the cities of Cleveland and Pittsburgh. In football I am a died in the wool Browns fan, and at least grew up hating the Steelers.
On the other hand, in baseball, I have no problem being a fan of both the Pirates and Indians. The truth is the rivalry between those teams just never took off - the Pirates really don't have an AL team they are natural rivals against, and the Indians natural NL rival is more Cincinnati then Pittsburgh. (What is even more confusing to the situation is the same town is home to Detroit's AA team. i found myself rooting quite heavily for the Tigers in last years World Series as I had seen quite a few of their players upclose just a year or two previously.)
In a case like you are in, or like someone else mentioned Chicago or NY, its a bit harder as the two teams have some what of a natural rivalry built in.
Let me ask you this: If you didn't think about it but had to respond with your first answer, and someone asked you who your favorite baseball team was, what would you say? (I have to admit I would say Cleveland if asked that same question.) Whatever your answer is - thats the team you should have your primary alliegance to.
Having said that, there is nothing wrong with taking a passing interest in the other team. This is baseball, after all, the greatest sport on the face of the planet. During the coming season not only will I follow the Indians and Pirates as well as the local team, but I will keep an eye on the Cubbies and WhiteSox, probably the Braves, and whatever teams ESPN and Fox are showing (which means primarily the RedSox and Yankees).
Bottom line is you have to do what you think is right. Of course you could confuse everyone by getting an Indians hat!! (LOL)

Hey man, I'm a diehard A's fan. I was a Giants fan before but after learning more about the sport and going to the games and actually knowing the difference between the A's and the Giants, I turned into an A's fan. Dude, the Giants suck. I'm not a bandwagon fan either. I loved the A's when they had losing seasons and playoffs weren't even in the picture for them. I was so happy that they made it to the ALCS last year! But yeah, like who you're going to like and you're really enjoy the sport of baseball even more. I think you could wear both since they're not TOTALLY rivals. I mean, if you wore a Giants hat, then the next year wore a Dodgers hat, then you got some serious problems. But yeah, since the Giants and the A's so-called "rivalry" is something made up from marketing executives to sell more tickets to games and sell more crap we don't need to support our teams, then it's cool to rock both the A's and the Giants. I mean, they're not even in the same league! Ok, I've said enough. Oh wait, I didn't get to say what I wanted to say. I HATE THE LOS ANGELES ANGELS OF ANAHEIM! Yes, because the A's have a rivalry with them and I will never ever wear an Angels hat in my life.

Well first you really shouldn't stress too much over a hat because in reality it is only a hat. I'm sure no one at your High School will think it's weird, chances are they won't even notice that you changed. But if they do I'm sure it will fine, liking the A's and Giants isn't too out of the ordinary. I mean the only reason there is even a "rivalry" or whatever you want to call it is because they're both bay teams, other than that they have no historical rivalry like the Giants/Dodgers. So if you want to wear in A's hat, go for it.

I do! I own the split SF Giants/Oakland A's hat that they gave out during the initial season of interleague play. Also, I have authentic field and batting practice jerseys of both A's & Giants players. There is no rivalry between the teams because they have actually not much bearing on division records for tiebreakers.
The rivalry is actually between some citizens of Oakland and SF, who are actually bandwagon riders who don't know a thing about the histories of both teams. Have you ever been cussed out by a 7 year old fan of Oakland? It has happened to me, and it was pretty sad because his parents wore their Raider clothing and prodded him on to say four letter words to Giants fans.
I love both teams and dismiss the fake fans and enjoy watching both perform. Unlike some metropolitan areas, where there are no professional sports, we are lucky to have two football, two baseball, one hockey and a basketball franchise in our area.

I like bothe the A's and the Giants and have my whole life. I am a bigger Giants fan and will pull for the Giants over the A's. The only thing is that if you like two teams and they play eachother you have to pick one and stick with them. By the way I was torn in the 1989 World Series untill the earthquake and then I was rooting for the Bay Area not either team.

Is it okay to like the Mets and the Yankees? Is it okay to like the White Sox and the Cubs? NO, and ummm NO. You can't wear a Yankees or Cubs hat your whole life, and then switch to a Mets or White Sox hat because they are suddenly a better team. I don't see an exception with the A's and the Giants. Stay with who you've always liked, don't be a bandwagon fan....

I like the A's more than the Giants, so the A's would be a fine choice.
