A: This has always been a tricky question. The problem is that there is no hard evidence that absolutely proves dying your hair during pregnancy causes birth defects or abnormalities in the baby. The chemicals found in semipermanent and permanent hair dyes are not extremely toxic, and your body doesn´t absorb a large amount during the process of dying your hair. All of this means that it´s unlikely the chemicals will harm the baby. That said, many doctors still recommend women wait until after the first trimester (which is after the fetus has developed) to dye their hair. Many also suggest staying away from harsher chemicals, such as bleach. Natural vegetable dyes can be an alternative to synthetic chemical dyes. But have a talk with your obstetrician before you make a decision.

I heard too that apparentely it is safe. However, the dye mixing when your changing hormones can change the color. Someone I know (pregnant) went in to get red highlights and they came out almost brown. But I also know people that have gotten it done with no problems. I guess you just have to take a chance!

You can.
Just dye it in a well ventilated area because your heightened sense of smell might make it harder for you to go through with it. Also, the hormones might make it harder for the colour to take properly.
It's also better to wait until the first trimester is over with before you try dyeing your hair :)

Yup! I've been coloring mine throughout the whole pregnancy! If you do it yourself, make sure you are in somewhere well ventilated... I did it myself, and the fumes were really harsh! I went outside to let it set. A couple of weeks ago I got it done professionally, and the fumes didn't bother me at all... I would recommend getting it done, rather than doing it yourself!

My Dr told me that it was ok to dye your hair while pregnant. I did when I was pregnant with my last two & they are prefectly fine.

I've heard that it isn't safe to but I did with my first pregnancy like twice. I used haircolor that didn't have ammonia though. I would think its just the fumes that would be dangerous

I always heard that you shouldn't, you might get some crazy .color because of your hormones mixing with the chemicals, you should probably wait.
