I am working for franchize first food shop. I am from Thai. I am working as shift runner. When I order something to teens they don't follow my order. I am good at any area than them. The only thing I am not good is "Speaking English". I am 25 years old. other worker in workplace is teens. I am in charge and want to do this position.

I don't know why they do not respect me. I always help them and teach them how to work. They understand what I am thinking and what I want them to do.

Please tell me how I sort it out and how can I get a good speaking English skill with short term.

Tell them to get to work or you will send them home. Loss in pay always motivated me. Schedule your best employees most of the hours, when your other employees complain tell then they have to earn their spot. If you are not the one who writes the schedule, talk about it with the person above you. I worked in the food biz for years and I really understand that if the team doesn't work then everything gets out of wack. You really cant just order teens around they take it personal you have to ask them and any good manager will tell you that you will get more with sugar than you will sour milk. What I mean by that is compliment them when they do a good job and instead of jumping down their throats try saying something like this " I appreciate every one being on time today but we really need to get started on the prep if we plan on getting out of here on time tonight" Start off with something positive then move on to the negatives. Try talking to them but dont waste too much time If someone doesnt want to work and make money than they dont deserve the job, give it to someone that will work. Trust me there are teens out there that will work so you cant judge all of them from some bad apples. Dont let them run over you just because you dont speak English well. Practice when your not at work is all the advice I know to give you on the learning English thing. Good Luck

teenagers first of all do not respond well to authority figures, if you come in and try and give them orders right away they're going to think who does this new guy think he is? and thats why they're making fun of you. if you can try to get to know them each a little better on a personal level and try and become...not really friends because you dont want to really appear as though you are their friend because its not professional and they wont want to take orders from you either, but on a level where THEY will feel that you treat them equally, where as you would say "could you clean this for me?" or "we need to get this done, i'm going to do this, why dont you start on that" you'll be more effective and they'll gain respect for you, and never ask them to do something that you are not willing to do yourself or they definitely will not respect you.

honestly, you may not be able to get them to respect you because they are teens and a lot of times there's not much you can do. to improve your English try getting a tutor or just learn what you need to know for the job and master it. that may help them to respect you more.

just do your job you get payed to do YOUR work not there's if they goof-off enuff they'll get fired , and that makes you look like a better employee . and for you speeking english i dunno maybe get a friend that speeks it well and get him to read to you and you read to him , that'd expand you english vocabulary and help you talk better .

fire one of them. the worst one. teach them all. make a point out of it. say:

"if you don't do what you're supposed to do, you'll get fired like him/her!"
