i'm not entirely sure, but i think they either sense heat or carbon dioxide. thats just a guess based on my very flimsy knowledge.

mosquitos are attracted by your scent. for instance, they hate the smell of OFF! or citrus candles, but if you sit around eating bananas all day and then go outside, they're going to love you for your sweet smell.

edit: and, yes, that definitely includes the smell of carbon dioxide humans emit.
