Again this is for my theology class discussion. If any of the questions I have asked make you feel very emotional in any way please tell me why so I can understand other people's points of view better. Thanks.

I'm gay, and I'm Unitarian. My church supports gay marriage. Read my link, it does a good job of offering the differing opinions.

Churches who don't support gay marriage, do so because they feel that it is part of the original sin that everyone is born with, and it is to be resisted, or changed. Most psychologists and gay people don't agree that homosexuality can be changed. Some churches say that while it's sinful to engage in homosexual behavior, it's better to be in a committed relationship compared to other options.

Most people who say it is against God's will to "promote" Homosexuality quote Leviticus 18:22. "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination."

Many liberal churches don't pay much attention to Leviticus because the section has a lot to do with rejection of pagan culture and rituals.

The church is not against gay people. That is a common misconception. THey are against gay people acting upon their instincts just like everyone else though. We are all called to be chastile until marriage under the Catholic Church and since Gay people can not marry, they are just supposed to be chastile for life.

actually I'm not offended because you make it clear about your class discusion...
I think the church's stand is from the religious point of view....only men and women should marry ...I dont find them very open...Now here in Chicago there are churches that are open minded toward gay marriages...

It all depends on the church involved, some churches are misleading people into believing that God makes you gay.

My first thought upon reading that was "which church?" There are a lot of christian sects with their own standings on same-sex relations and relationships.

it would not be a marriage in the churchs eyes...you can do it in a church but God and anyone that is of Faith will not recongize it as real...God and Jesus both have said in the sciptors that marriage is between one man and one women.

Well---those who obey Christ and refuse to condemn others would be in favor of equality for gays---however those Christians who spit on Christ's teaching & get a kick out of condemning gays will fight equality for gays tooth & nail.

Which church?

Mine certainly allows them.

It's a Buddhist church, though.
