I try and follow the "golden rule" which basically states that you should treat others the way YOU want to be treated. If a female calles me a pig, or a dog, or "one who needs training buy a woman" or an extra child. Or my favorite " You are JUST a man,"

To me this is insulting, untrue, rude, worthy of VENOMUS retort. But, comments like this are regarded as humor at worst and truth at best. But let's flip it around, point for point.

If I, a man, in public said to a woman, You sow, Bit@h, "One who needs to be trained by a real man, little girl, or "You are JUST a woman." Not 3 seconds would pass until a posse staked me to an anthill for DARING to speak to someone like that.

Equality by it's most basic defintion, means EVEN, no more on one side than exists on another.

Now, are things truly equal between the sexes, races, or whathaveyou? Disgracefully they are not. But I don't believe acting equally as disgraceful, makes anything better for anyone. What do you think

You are right on the money here. The Golden Rule applied to gender-relations would hold that whatever characteristics are intrinsic to either sex are of equal moral value. And when conventional wisdom appears to produce "evidence" to the contrary, then conventional wisdom and its methods need to be revised. Clearly, there is a double standard regarding gender in conventional wisdom. The dark side of the masculine is treated as much more evil than the dark side of the feminine, and the moral strength of the masculine is greatly devalued in comparison to the moral strength of the feminine.
___These issues go far, far deeper into methods and assumptions than the practical outcomes you describe above (responses to name calling, etc.)

Well, as a woman I would never say such a thing to a man simply because they are male. If they are a dog or a pig, I would tell them that, but I don't assume all men are dogs or pigs just because I encounter a few of them.

I still believe in the golden rule, but not to the extent that I would let anyone walk all over me, bully me or abuse me and let them get away with it.

However, the best policy is usually to be the bigger person in these situations and show class and dignity. These people aren't usually worth the effort to respond. Especially if it's someone you know you'll never see again. I would respond if it was someone that I have to see on a regular basis, so that they know that I will not allow them to abuse me.

But the ramblings of a few morons certainly are not indicative of an entire group of any persons, be it based on gender, colour, race, religion or whatever.

I think you are right but your main golden rule is to treat people the way you want to be treated not to be treated the same as a different sex.

I'm confused by your question, but here goes nothing.

"Treat others how you want to be treated" means do what is right, but the teachers and philosophers decided against this basic approach.
