That's not a yes or no question I'm afraid.

Is it always necessary? No

Is it always avoidable? No

Are there times when it could have been prevented? Yes

Are there times when War is the only answer? Yes

you can find historical evidence to support all claims for or against war. the war of 1812 was preventable if communications had been more advanced or if all countries involved would have listened to each other better.

WW2 was preventable had the treaty of Versailles not been so harsh, but once it had been in play and Hitler had taken power the war became inevitable.

I know many people see the negative side of war, the death and destruction that is involved, but few people realize the benefit of war. War has been the Forge of almost all modern technology, computers, modern medicines, synthetics, jet engines, rocket technology, communications, transportation and machinery have all been created or improved because of the needs of war. So war has been vital in the advancement of Human nature.

There will probably never be a time without war, Humans are too... well Human...

To eliminate war and conflict you would need to eliminate everything that makes us as people, people.

Greed, love, hate, desire, hope, faith, lust, power, need, anger, thought, sexuality, height, weight eye color, hair color, skin color, language, perceptions, and the list goes on an on...

as long as humans are different from one another there will be conflict, yes we can learn to tolerate each other, but we will never fully accept one another. And thats part of the cause of Conflict and war.

Is war necessary? not always

Is it part of Human nature? yes

Man, this is a tough question. well, It should not.

But the laws of the world has said other wise. I mean if you look at the bible( not that i am christian or anthing close to it). The son of the first human, adam, killed his own brother who is from the same flesh an blood of the same father. But yet he had the guts to kill his own brother.

If you believe in evolution the theory of the survial of the fitest is what governs the universe not just our species or just the little fishies in the sea.

Violence is a part of us. However, laws, moral, and values make us humans diffrent from the rest of the species. These laws, morals and values also history illustrate to us the down fall of violence. violence of any kind creats more violence.

Thus war also should not be premanent condition of humanity. I mean we are supposed to get smarter and learn from the past and civialize our selves. We can not call our selves civilized and repeat the same action of the ancient hihttes, the greeks, the romans, the mongols, or the nazis.

We are humans have to figure out other means of solving our problems. I mean look at how the whole korea thing turned out, everything is fine, no one died, nothing, we just have officals shaking hands and taking pictures.

I hope that in the centuries to come peace can be almost achieved. But i do not think that it will go away completly. Because the world is unting under the UN and the EU and the AU and other organizations. If people are unified under the same baner or flag, then people will feel comfortable with one another, people will view the world diffrently that way. instead I am this and that. we will look at our selves as citizens of the earth.

I hope that will happen. But I do not belive that it will happen any time soon.

War, in some cases, is necessary. If Hitler had not come to power we would not have had to fight the 2nd WW. If Japan had not attacked the U.S. we would never have had to drop the A-bomb! Horrible as those bombs were, they ended the war with Japan & saved the lives of countless Allies.
Since the 2nd WW, I don't think that any action that we have been involved in has been necessary. Out of some need to try & save the world for Democracy has driven us to become involved in places that we should never have gone & spent the lives of many of our youth for no good reason, we had nothing to gain or lose in those actions taken by our government.

As Von Clauswitz so famously said; war is the continuation of diplomacy by other means. In other words when you have exhausted the round table negotiations and any economic sanctions and/or blockades and the enemy/adversary still will not do what you want, and assuming you judge it to be in the national interest to make them, then war is the last recourse. That of course assumes you think you have a good chance of having military success against them and that your countrymen will support the war.

The only moral purpose for going to war is for purposes of self-defense. That does mean we wait for someone to attack us (you do not wait for the punch to strike your nose before you attempt to block it) but it means that the state must neutralize anything that threatens the lives of its citizens.

Offensive wars for any reason (conquest, resource allocation, nation-building) are immoral.

Only a pacifist would tell you that war under any circumstance is evil. Such is the philosophy of the slave: that it is better to be a safe than to be free.

Yes. Because sometimes you just have to reach out and b*tch slap somebody.

But seriously, I do not think that it is reasonable to believe that we could live in a world without war. There are just too many prespectives world wide...war is just when those perspectives clash, increase friction and boil over.

It's really necessary to avoid it at all possible costs but when the enemy won't do as they are told, you can't avoid it so you go in with both barrels blazing.

Not necessary but the illusion of an enemy is very necessary.
