i have to write on this quote but i don't understand it, can someone please explain it for me and tell me what litterary devices are used?? it would be a huge help!

I see simile (Swiftly as a racing river... quickly as a dream)

I see a bit of alliteration: Tides of Time, Racing River

It's talking about our very brief time on Earth.

Maybe it means that we go through life in a hurry. or as Casting Crowns would say, "I am a flower quickly fading, here today and gone tomorrow. A wave tossed in the ocean, a vapor in the wind"
