why do you think that the officers did not kill Gavrilo Princip immediately after the assassination ?

they wanted to take him to just the edge of death ,,,cause they did everything but actually kill him
The officers seized Princip. They beat him over the head with the flat of their swords. They knocked him down, they kicked him, scraped the skin from his neck with the edges of their swords, tortured him, all but killed him.
The next day they put chains on Princip's feet, which he wore till his death....
i think him living was a worse punishment then dying cause he lived a horrible life after that

Wouldn't the answer be, that at that blessed time in history, before the total degradation of civilization through which we
are living now, police followed procedures, which is that you capture the perp for trial and sentencing, and do not shoot
except in self-defense.

Well there's the legal side of it and for interrogation purposes probably. They could have used him to gain information about the Black Hand organization.

He has to stand trial according to thier laws. Plus he's under the legal execution age limit
