People generally group themselves according to mutual interests/benefits. Therefore the members will conform to the group ethos. This need to conform will definitely impact on the motivation of individual members. For example, the most visible impact on motivation is evident in high school. There are many different groupings from the Smart (nerdy) kids, to Goths, to Preppy, to Jocks, to "Outlaws". Membership in each of these groups demands a certain behaviour. If the group values academic achievement then motivation to learn will be high. If the group values athletic prowess over academics then the motivation will be higher in sports.....So, the price of membership in a group will be determined by the value system of that group.
