Hi,
Either this Modidera thing, No. 201, from 1973, steel strung, but with a stereo tie mike clipped onto the hole, for a traditional classical note or two, or that 12 string Yamaha over here, in front of a swan-neck mike, for a rich chorus sound
Or maybe the old Fender strat electic through a fuzz box / rotophase thing flat out. Rock & Roll !
Horses for courses I guess.

All the chords and fiddly bits should be the same.

If you are looking for something in between, that does fine for all types of playing, I would go for something like that blue Fender semi-acoutic thing, living underneath my bookcase.
Or a Gibson semi. Lovely adaptable sound in most styles of playing.

I have too many guitars collected over the years, so will happily trade one for a nice banjo. Have my mellow souding Spanish nylon "was gut" strung item. It has loads of old credit cards stuck to it, but plays a dream.

I give up with my Grandfathers violin. It is vile.
As I do with the daft Uncles' trumpet.
But I can get a tune out of a copper kettle & a bit of hose-pipe.

Merry musics,

Bob.

Classical guitars have a slightly thicker fretboard making them easier to fingerpick, but harder to barre.
Stick with an electro acoustic (12 strings sound fine, if the song demands it) but make sure all the strings are tuned!!!
Also the players you mention use effects, so that would be the next step to achieving a really mellow sound.

It's simple.
Any guitar you have to play any type of music you want. A guitar is a guitar is a guitar. Just don't put steel strings on your classical guitar and don't use a pick, but play anything you want on it!
