I really don't know if black magic can be taken seriously. Personally i think its unfounded. However, I'd like to point out that Satanists are not devil worshipers. A devil worshipper is someone who worships evil as a moral absolute. Satanists only recognise cause and effect, not good and evil. The ironic thing is Satanists tend to be very moral people (excluding LaVey's church. They are a bit different). I don't really know that much, since I'm not a Satanist. I only have friends who are, but I hope this clarifies that difference.

First - I would appreciate it if you found more intelligent ways to describe things that are not founded.
Now, to answer your question:
Black Magic (ie: negative or evil magic) is something that many people simply choose not to believe in because they want to avoid the negativity that comes with it...
In short, if you focus on something, then that becomes your new reality. Some people might believe in it just enough to warrant them not even answering this question. Get it?
A better place to ask this question would be in Mythology and Folklore.

Personally, I incline towards the latter camp. However, like most similar things, it depends on your own belief, as the human psychology is a very powerful tool. Once you have convinced yourself that it exists, you will start to be affected by it and see it manifest itself, as you can make yourself see things if you really, really want to. That's why people believe in s**t like that so seriously.

The same question can be asked of religion, history or politics. It's up to you really. Most people immediately say that it's unfounded and ridiculous, but if it's something that you believe in, well then there's something there.
