Society is important because it creates and depicts how the world functions. As a society we base our laws, ethics, justifications, etc. off of the past, present, and how we would like the future society to sustain/maintain. Society consist of our values, ideas, and judgements (i.e. murder, insanity, world peace/war, poverty, currency, ect.)

When you get some time take a sociology class or research it yourself. You'll find a lot of amazing concepts.
