She was driving today and all of a sudden it started idling randomly. Her antifreeze is low, could that be the cause of it? She just had her oil changed, so that isn't it. Help plz

yes low coolant can cause an unsteady or hunting idle. If the coolant temp sensor isn't submerged in antifreeze it will send a false signal to the computer and the computer will react unpredictably.

I hope this helps

In an extreme instance that is a remote possibility. The low coolant COULD be causing a 'false' signal to the E.C.M., this COULD cause the E.C.M. to keep the engine in an open loop condition, This MIGHT cause, or contribute to the erratic idling condition. I do highly doubt it though. It sounds as if you need a diagnostic run on your vehicle. Is the 'check engine light on'? At any rate it is not advisable to continue operating any liquid cooled engine without proper coolant level. I have never seen a vehicle that has an 'auxilliary injector for idling, idling on fuel injected vehicles is controled by a device called the I.A.C.(idle-air-control) valve. It opens a path past the throttle valve when accelerator is closed, allowing air to enter the plenum, and the combustion chamber to allow the engine to idle.In most cases, if the valve malfunctions, the vehicle will not idle at all, it (the engine) will shut off, as there will be no air to allow for fuel to combust.

Low antifreeze can cause the car to idle randomly but that would mean your car is maybe over heating or more serious problems, so this is very RARE, so most likely.. not the problem

if it is idling randomly.. it would probably be like maybe.. dirty fuel injectors: because its dirty, it wuld block gas flow when sprayin into engine, so go to a shop or get fuel injector or fuel system cleaners at auto store .. at most $15... cheap $5

another problem: could be fuel pump, or fuel regulator, which means it is not sending in the right amount of gas to the engine which causes it to jerk.... so get that inspected at shop... not sure about the cost. fuel pumps range from cheap 35$ to alot which i have seen to be about 300$... so shuld problaby get a trusted mechanic..

another problem:: could be with the air system in the car... remember.. AIr and Fuel mixture is what cause the car to move.. .so change your air filter! thats part of the tune up... air filters are very cheap.. proalby $20... change dat yearly...

well, it could be a lot more problem, these are the main ones...

other problems could be spark plugs, timing belt.... and problaby more...

No, that really wouldnt effect the idle, as in going high to low, then high again. Unless your radiator is completely empty and you are overheating....

Not likely. You need to find out when her last tune up was, noy just an oil change. spark plugs and wires need to get changed every so often. or it could be her timing. She should go get it checked out by a mechanic.

if it is a fuel injection car the car has an auxiliary injector to run when cold that could be dirty, chec k for a vacum leak or the Oxygen sensor.
