They most definitely did *not* have gaslights in Tudor times!

The only available artificial lighting was from candles, torches or open fireplaces. Oil lamps weren't particularly common in Tudor England, though they were used in other parts of the world at that time.

Gaslights? Candles? Well, everybody has candles.

I'd go with gaslights. We had the piping for gaslights in my first apartment, a Victorian. It's natural gas coming out of a pipe--not very high-tech. You turned it on and lit it and...ta-da! A flaming pipe! Wheeee!

You should see the movie Gaslight, BTW. It's really good.
