The term gavel and sand pertain to size classification only. Gravel and sand can be of any mineral composition or rock type. Gravel size range is from <20mm >2mm.
Where as sand is <2mm >62micron.

Other size classifications are-
clay- <3.9 micron
silt<62micron >3.9micron
sand <2mm >62 micron this includes very fine sand, fine sand,medium sand coarse sand, very course sand.

gravel,pebbles cobbles etc.

The main definition for gravel and sand is- a size classification system.
Nothing to do with mineralogy.

I have never heard of it. Gravel is crushed granite, about 1 to 2 centimeters across. Sand is rounded quartz grains about 1 millimeters in diameter. Granules are clasts between coarse sand and pebbles (gravel equivalents).

Its whats left after crushing gravel and you get the sand out of it.
