What era was earth formed from gas and dust? We're talking 4.6 billion years ago (at least thats when the crust cooled down). Not much is known about this time (You're right its refered to as the Pre-Cambrian era) because a lot of the fossil evidence has been destroyed not much about this time is known. Jellyfish and worms were around i believe and the earths atmosphere was still not oxygenized.

The Hadian Eon is the first 700 million years of the Earth's history, and little is known about it. Certainly if it has been divided into eras then it would have to be the first of these eras. But then, that would have to be after it had formed from the solar nebula that formed into our stellar system.

Genesis Era..........

Pre-Cambrian is the earliest recgonized time period in the geologic time scale. The oldest of the old is very subjective at most. Rock evidence from the Pre-Cambrian is very difficult to extract information out of because it is so old and predates everything known. And that is after the earth cooled and solidified at the surface.

In a broad sense, I would answer the question with Pre-Cambrian. Essentially it cover "from the beginning of time.."
