To me, animal cruelty is the same as child abuse. An animal and a child are the same concept... no self-defense, no conscious, no reasoning...
Hitting or harming an animal has the same moral backdrops as harming a child.
It should be punished as child abuse is. Every living creature should be equally treated.

It is a line that needs to be drawn. Nowdays it seems like it is just a part of life, when it really shouldn't be. Since they don't have strict enough laws against cruel acts. They just want to tax people with their animals, but what they should be doing is applying a law that gives you 3 strikes, if you get 3 then you can't own that breed/species again. And if you are caught then you should be fined. Or something like that.
What they have now and what they are proposing will punish the people who haven't done any wrong and have taken good care of their animals. I would love for them to be harder on people who are cruel to animals, but since there are too many gaps in the system I don't think we will be seeing such a system in a long while yet.

I lose a lot of sleep thinking about the way some people treat their pets.
It makes me sad when I hear about people casually performing surgery on helpless animals and robbing them of their biological birthrights just because they're too lazy to be responsible for them and take measures to prevent wild and crazy baby-making. I know if we could ask our dogs "Do you want us to *fix* you so that you never get to have a family of you own?" they would totally say "**** no, lady!" Who are we to invade their BODIES??? Not many people enjoy having their reproductive rights ****** around with.
It also pains me to see people who feed their pets 100% dry pellets and processed food. That is just so unhealthy and unfair. In the wild those animals would eat all raw foods and have little risk of cancer or disease, but eating dry pellets all the time will make a dog lose it's energy and youth before it even turns 2 because of a general poor condition.
If you aren't considering your pet's feelings then you're their captor, and not their friend.
Life in civilization does not define life. Think of how it was 4000 years ago for all of us. That's the healthiest and happiest way, because that's what we've evolved for. Same with our pets. If we're going to foce them to live in civilization as a society, we should at least make sure they get some of the pleasures of being free.... Like their health and the luxury of an intact reproductive system.

You wouldnt hurt a child so why should you feel the need to harm innocent animals, in my view only very sick individuals can carry out such barberic acts and so should be forced to suffer the consequences of their actions. cruelty to animals is unacceptable and uncalled for under all circumstances. i am an avid animals rights supporter and have reacently joined BUAV the animal rights charity. It is still not clear to me how any one could harm an animal and not feel guilty it upsets me even to think what my own pets have been through before i gave them asecond chance at a better life. if more people in the world actually realised what some of these animals go through not only in thier own homes but in slaughter houses and in laboratories for our own gain, i feel they d be appalled and more people would petition for an end to animal cruelty. perhaps what uppsets me most is the EU plans to introduce the "reach" programme in 2009. it may sound harmless enough but will result in the horrific deaths of millions of animals including dogs rabbits and horses simply for the unessesary testing of every chemical product available on the market. if you truly care for animals send of for a free copy of BUAVs little book of cruelty free and a copy of the petition and help put a stop to aniamal cruelty.

i might lock up the human beings who mistreat and abuse animals and difficulty them to an analogous issues they did to the animal! i've got continually 'rescued' my canines and cats and volunteer on the interior sight animal welfare centre and it sickens me how some human beings take care of them! we are meant to be the main clever species and 'humane' yet I see little or no info of it! Why and how human beings may be so merciless is something i'm going to under no circumstances stay long adequate to understand! thank you for reminding me that some particularly first rate human beings nevertheless exist and that i'm specific if the Kitten could talk he'd say thank you too! in case you're everywhere close to South Cumbria i may be keen to take the little fellow!

I think that as humans we should have evolved past the point of needing to hurt others (animals, children, elderly, people in general) to make ourselves feel superior. Anyone who is cruel to any other living thing has serious issues that need to be dealt with. I say put them on an island and them fight it out amongst themselves.

It's the same as child abuse. Wrong and done by people who need to feel power or control due to a lack there of in their life.
