Agatha Christie was educated at home. She eventually did take nursing exams though and spent time taking care of casualties brought back home from World War I. She became ill and couldn't work for a while. Upon return to duty, she discovered a new area had opened...the dispensary and spent the next two years there. Here she learned about poisons and used that knowledge in the mysteries she wrote years later.
