No - do not shave your eyebrows. You will end up w/ unpleasant stubble and irritated skin.
The width of your brows is determined by your features. If you have large features, extremely thin brows would look unbalanced. Full brows are the current trend.
The length and arch should also complement your features and personal style.

It will show you how to choose a shape and how to pluck your brows properly.
You might want to get them done by a professional to have them plucked, waxed or threaded after letting your brows grow out for 2-4 weeks. A professional will create a flattering shape that you can maintain at home.
Explain that you want a natural looking brow and let the aesthetician know if you are on any medications. (ex. Retin-A thins the skin so users should avoid waxing.)
Waxing is fast but threading is one alternative I've found it to be far less irritating than waxing. Some aestheticians will just pluck stray brows if you ask.
If your brows aren't too bushy, you could just skip plucking, etc.
Instead, use a lash/brow comb and comb your eyebrow hairs upward. Trim any long ones that really stick out with small cuticle scissors. Trim individual hairs & take it slow. Step back and check the results frequently.
You can use a clear brow gel to shape them and keep them in place. Maybelline makes a good one.
BTW plucking used to really irritate my skin & I've found a few things that help:
1. Good tweezers - Tweezerman are the best. Really good tweezers help you get a good grip & pluck in one tug.
2. Plucking after a shower when my pores are open & my skin is free of makeup, moisturizer.
3. Following up with toner.
4. Cleaning tweezers with alcohol.
5. Using chilled aloe vera gel to sooth my brows after I'm done.

How thin your eyebrows should be REALLY depends on your face. For most people an arch is the standard shape, where you pluck so that it's thicker towards the center, then just at the outer edge of your iris the eyebrow peaks, and from there towards the far outside you pluck them fairly straight and thinner than towards the middle. Some people have different faces though, other eybrow shapes are a smoother u-shape with a thicker part JUST at the inner point, or even just a thin all-one-width line for some people and styles. It normally takes a while to really figure out what works for you.
Also, if you aren't sure, the best thing to try first is just plucking out maybe one or two rows of hair from all along the bottom of the eyebrow and seeing how it looks! This will look very natural but will make your eyebrows less massive. And don't pluck from the top, do it from the bottom...

Don't shave them, because they will look stubbly. The way to pluck eyebrows is a tiny bit at a time, even if you get impatient. If you have a digital camera, take a before picture, and then take a picture after you've done some tweezing. It's very easy to get carried away. Changing you eyebrows can make a big difference in how you look, so people will really notice if you do too much.

Blimey, don't shave them whatever you do. Go to a salon that specializes in eyebrows (www.anastasia.com); Juan Juan if you live in LA, and have them professionally plucked. Thereafter, you can follow the line the expert creates.

Don't shave them- that could be a disaster. I would check into having them waxed at a salon. Or purchase an Anastasia eyebrow kit. They may have them at Sephora, or you can google it. They're expensive, but really great.
Be careful with your eyebrows. They grow back very slow!

NEVER shave them off. Some people do that. Personally though, I find it completely unnattractive. Especially when they start to grow back out! Yuck!
They should be thinner on the outside and thicker as you move inward. Katharine Mcphee tends to have nice eyebrow shapes usually. You might check out some of her pictures.

I love my thick eyebrows, my sister plucked hers for years until they no longer grew in. I like mine they add character to the face. I only pluck lightly from underneath and even put vasaline on them to highlight them. Please do not mess with them too much, you might regret it like my sister who now has to draw hers on. How about going to a salon and have them professionally shaped?
