A woman who had been hypnotized. As Capt walked out of the courthouse she shot him and as he lie bleeding on the steps she popped him 4 more times in the stomach ending 66 years of Captain America.

it looks to me like the sniper hit him but it was his long time lover Sharon Carter (agent 13 of SHIELD) under hypnosis by Doctor Faust (who is working for the Red Skull) who then shots him several more times in the stomach

Cap was supposedly shot by Winter Soldier. WS’ real name is James Buchanan (Bucky) Barnes, who used to be Cap’s partner during World War II. I don’t know why or how they got him to do it, but I just can’t see Bucky doing that to his partner, unless he was brainwashed or something.
