Growing up knowing that they have **** all chance of succeeding in life because baby boomers refuse to leave the top jobs (that is retire, or at least retire to something else), own 80% of societies wealth, and form a formidable political block: one that stops progressive government policies that benefit young people.... Basically, they can look forward to working under crap working conditions so boomers can drive FWDs, go on overseas holidays and drink wine.
Oh and then getting told they are lazy because they struggle financially when in reality they struggle financially because too many greedy boomers took too much of the pie (which they intend to spend before they die)…. You have no idea how much it pisses me off when a boomer says my generation want everything now. What crap, boomers are the impatient ones. We just want a fraction of what boomers were handed on a plate. Most teens today will never own their own home, and plenty will never even be able to afford rent (homelessness, is pretty common amongst under 25yr olds). Why do you think so many people in there 20s still live at home. It's not because they want to, it's because they'd be living in a cardboard box if they didn't.
Oh, and the sex and drugs thing. Kids know moore about sex now than boomers ever did when they were teens AND they know more about drugs than boomers ever will. Anyone who tells you we need more sex and drug education is either stupid or want's to sweep the issue under the carpet and foget about it.

Trying to understand that they are just teens and not young adults. They all tend to try and grow up to fast. With all the media afforded them, it's no wonder. Parents and teachers should stress that being a teenager is the best time in everyones life as you only have to be respectful to your elders, study and do well in school, and spend money you generally don't make. They must always honor their parents. However, today they want to act like grown ups, do what they like and tend to be looking for outlets to relieve their own self, as if the are the only person on the planet. When I grew up, and as a teen, I was respectful of my parents and family, did my chores, studied and did my best in school, played sports, went to church, and in general did what my parents had instilled in me. The real problem today is lack of parental guidance and lack of their concern for their own children, no matter if they are sixteen or even eighteen. It takes a person about thirty years to realize that they are an adult and on their own; responsible for ones self and to be an individual and the ones that can't, can look back to their parents, or lack of them and the public school systems. Being a mother or father doesn't mean that they are being parents having the best interest for their children; they must be a parent; which means they have to work with their children, be there for them and make the tough deceisons that sometimes hurt the child;s (teens are still children) feelings. It is not to easy to turn the other way and let them, the children, be influenced by their peers, which are generally, the wrong role model; but a lot of parents do just that. Therefore, the main issue is parenting, and we need more of it, as the public school system is nothing more than a baby sitting service for about half the day. Parents that are concerned and that interact with their teens have sucessful contributing adults in the end.

I'm going to give you a serious answer, you might not like it.
The major issue facing kids today is narcissism and entitlement. Most kids today think they 'deserve' whatever they want and it's their parents' or other relatives' duty or job to provide for their every need , want and whim.
When parents do that they cripple initiative, self -responsibility, self-esteem and if it keeps up it's going to be a very scary society where the majority of ' adults' have no empathy and think the world owes them.
Second issue promiscuity and not learning about sex , stds, aids etc.
Purity balls ain't gonna cut it , a kid can tell daddy anything at 8 ,9, 10, but it's an entirely different matter when they're 14 plus and some guy who's professed undying love wants to get in her panties.
Religions or not kids need to know the facts of life , not just about abstinence because it's not a realistic option for most teenagers and young adults.
Drugs and that includes alcohol and illegal and legal substances. You can run and hide behind your drugs all you want , but eventually you still have to come ' home' to you and straighten up.
Alot of the ism, racism, rankism, homophobia, egotism, supposedly Generation Next is going to be the most enlightened generation , well if any of the questions put on YA are indicative , you guys have a LONG way to go to be enlightened about anything.
Apathy- you don't like the world the way it is , get off your behinds, vote and do something about it rather than whine about how previous generations screwed it up for you.

That's a great question! As a teen myself, I think I can answer this truthfully. I think the main issues deal with sex and appearance. I was in class last week and this guy said he was a virgin, and everyone like verbally attacked him! I was shocked, and I thought it was so mean. Teens act like they are so "grown" now and they aren't. Wow, so and so said he loved you, like yeah right! Oh and the appearance thing has gotten ridiculous! It's all about clothes and make up. I also think teen girls have to deal with a lot more issues. If we don't wear shirts or make up, we're "gay", or if we wear too much, we're "nasty". Gender roles are totally tested now since many are concerned about who's gay or who isn't. I just don't want others to think that all teens are crazy sex craving, drinking underage, and smoke puffing idiots. I get straight A's, I don't do drugs or drink, and I don't go around having sex either. I guess other teens would call me lame and a goody two shoes, but if that's so, I'm proud to be a dork then. At least I won't be messed up later in life!

I think the main reason is that the teens think that is there best point in life. I am a teen and I think no one should even date until there ready for marrage (19-1000). Second of all, weight and looks. I have never put on any make-up, even to weddings and funerals, and I am 172 lbs. I have no problem with myself, because that is the way God made me, and i do not need a lot of friends, heck, I don't need any friends! Thirdly, teenagers think they are ready for sex, but even if the male wears a condom, they could still get pregnate, they would need to spend a lot of money for abortion, and everyone will think there a ****. If teens think they are so perfect, wait until there older.

I believe that many teens do not understand, or are even aware, the complexities of life.
I don't mean that as a critical statement. Few teens don't have the foggiest idea of what to do to advance themselves.
Probably, the main issue is money ($$$$). Unless their parents are rich (Hilton), they have to find their way so as to become independent. That takes a lot of determination and willpower.

The issue is that they want to grow fast, and they don't enjoy life. The best thing is to wait until the time comes for everything thing. For example; they want to have sex, go out & party, and what do they do, they get pregnant right away. I remember that my dad was so strict with me when I was a teen, I used to complain of course because I was not allow to go out with my friends, but now that I am 24 I totally enjoy my freedom. I am almost done with my college, I do things that are according to my age, but with moderation and I enjoy everything I do. On the other hand my two little sisters (20 & 18) are pregnant, did not graduate high school and yes, they did had the freedom that I did not have. I personally believe that its all about the freedom that the parents give them. Of course, its hard to wait and to listen to aour parents and to follow rules at the age, because we want to have the world under us, but if we wait I guaratee you at the end its all worth it.

everything belonging to peer pressure (alcohol, smoking, insecurity, sex, etc.)
Especially for female teens: Always worrying and watching what they eat to keep a "thin" shape. Some are never happy with their bodies
Male teens: basically peer pressure,
drinking beer, always betting they'll have sex with the girl next door, sometimes insecurity. Feeling smaller than the others.
Conclusion: The issues vary alot from peer pressure to isolation. Situations that they have to go through sometimes like a parent's divorce.

Since I am a teen I know for a fact that teens are obsessed with weight and weight loss. I was once and my friends still are. They are to busy counting calories and going low carb. It bothers me ALOT. It takes the fun out of life if you keep on calculating. This is what causes most people to go anorexic .
Teens are very obsessive over their appearances which is why the rates for teenage plastic surgery are getting higher everyday. People are all trying to conform to one look. Teens are forgetting what it feels like to be a unique individuals. Our differences are what makes us interesting and beautiful.
