Work in a state bureaucracy...you will see PC alive and well every day. I worked in a state department of corrections right out of college. That department is paralized to the point of inefficency due to political correctness. Not only do they have to worry about the inmates, every employee there is LOOKING for an EEOC case.
Here is how irrational it is. THere is a push to not call the convicts "inmates" anymore because it is demeaning...they want them to be called "clients". - as if convicts deserve to not be demeaned.
After DOC, I was at Office of State Finance. Not as PC, but bad...I saw a guy get fired for telling a subordinate that she might not get off at 5:00 sharp, that they would stay until that particular task was done.
I don't know if it is conservatives or liberals who have wedged the PC crap into everyday life...but if I had to guess, it is people who are hyper-sensative and get their FEELINGS hurt very easy...I will let you make an assumption.
Needless to say, I did not last long in government...I am now in the private sector and running a small construction business on the side, and am much happier!

Absolutely to both, and It is no Myth.
I generally find the idea of "Manners" being a Conservative thing and PC being a liberal thing. Like how logic tends to be a conservative train of thought and emotion is a liberal one (That's not an insult by the way I will explain in a moment).
obviously Thats not always the case. there are plenty of people on either side who are or are not PC or do or do not have manners. I work with a guy who is rather Liberal, but he is in no way PC and laughs at the idea of being PC.
In a way PC was an attempt to replace manners, a person could be polite but if they had negative thoughts and feeling then the courtesy was simply a facade, in the persons heart and mind there was still dislike. By altering the way people thought, you could alter hate in to acceptance. It backfired. as people began to accept the idea of Political correctness, there were some people who realized they had a tool to force others in to their way of thinking began to us PC as a form of forced control. Lawsuits and public policies began to spring up.
Personally I think PC is getting way out of hand. If I was to categorize my race I would be A Hispanic-native-Asian-African-euro-American.... Can you guess I have to mark "Other" on all those forms that ask race? Now people are worried about insulting others and the law suits that would follow, "Oh this cross in a church is going to insult people of other faiths." (see the William and Mary Chapel cross issue) etc. Or saying the wrong words or presenting historical facts as not to upset people.
All of this is an Emotional response to possibly negative stimulation... It is not based on equality, it is based on not insulting or hurting others. Would Christians be insulted if that cross is removed? yes of course, but lets worry more about the people who are less likely to find them self's in that Chapel, or the actual history of the building because they could potentially have a Lawsuit.
It is no myth, it is simply a good idea that has gone way to out of control and was abused by a few greedy people.
I am a Conservative and I can't say I am PC, I do use it at work because it is the expected norm. But My parent raised me with the idea that "you treat every man with respect equally, until such time as they have proven them self's unworthy of respect." Which I believe is the best way of thinking and is a much better alternative to PC, since it is based in logic.

Conservatives can be, but would rather call a spade a spade.
where I live (a bastion of socialism) illegal immigrants are called "undocumented workers". That's not even correct, as if anything, they should be called "mis-documented workers" since they have to buy fake or steal IDs to get a job.
Remember when Ann Coulter used the word... well, you know the word.....and yet Bill Maher gets away with saying it's too bad Cheney didn't die.
Then a Minneapolis police officer gets in trouble for making some dumb remarks to a colleague about our honerable (and first Muslim) US congressman. And yet how many people regularly bash the president and make stupid, inflammatory comments about him? And it's encouraged.
welcome to the world of PC (link below). You should be scared.

Being "PC" is no hoax or myth.
But I could care less . . . I'm gonna say what I mean, and mean what I say.
Example: When 9-11 happened, the next week, almost every woman I spoke to was ready to give up personal freedom for safety. Almost every man was mad, and ready to kick someones butt! It was the first time I began to see why the "woman vote" may not be a very good thing. Not a very "PC" thing to say, hey? Another example: Have you noticed all the women ready to vote for Hillary because she is a woman? She has no qualifications, but her gender? again . . . the "woman vote" . . . is it a good thing?

PC isn't a myth. Both parties can be either PC or non-PC, really depending on the person's perception. An action considered PC by one group might not be considered PC by another.
Answer, it all depends on the persons perception.

PC knows no political party. It was started by politicians to keep from offending potential voters. As usual the "media" blew it out of proportion.
I'm socially unaware and politically incorrect myself at times.

It's mostly myth, but there are a few cases of liberals going overboard with it. The conservatives just blow the whole thing out of proportion to what it really is.

one can properly be outwardly politically properly desirable , yet nonetheless have a heart of stone. absolutely everyone can flow through the theatrics and motions. So who's more suitable detestable ... someone who substances their trustworthy opinion on concerns or man or woman who hides their genuine ideas in the back of a hazy fog?
