Thank you for looking. I have a couple questions on becoming a lawyer. I currently only have my g.e.d. what would be the best route to take if I want to become a lawyer? I am currently in community college majoring in business, should I change my major to pre-law? Are there any good law schools here in C.A.? Are there any law schools that will accept an online degree? Please post your comments, all are appreciated. Thank you

There's no such thing as a "pre-law" major.

You want to pick a major in the area you eventually want to practice in. If you want to be a business lawyer, pick a business major. Don't take criminal justice or something like that.

By C.A., I'm assuming you mean California? The periods are throwing me off.

There are tons of good law schools in CA. You've got the ABA accredited ones (the ones you'd like to go to) as well as unaccredited ones.

There are even online law schools. They aren't accredited, but I don't see why they wouldn't take an online degree. Any prestigious law school won't take an online degree. Community college is fine, just transfer to a 4yr school and get your bachelors. Even the prestigious law schools have no problem with people who go that route. The online school route is looked down upon tho.

Hi Roger. I actually just answered your other questions regarding this, but saw you also asked this one so i thought i'd supplement since you give some more information this time around.

Do not change your major to pre-law. that is one of the worst majors if you want to go to law school. law schools like to see some creativity in undergrad. major in anything you like...english, math, biology, history, business, econ, theatre...doesn't matter. fyi, a business major won't be that useful for "business law." actually doing mergers/transactions/corporate law won't be anything like you will learn in undergrad.

and there are definitely great law schools in california! many, many of them. i don't know how high you're setting your sights, but there's everywhere from stanford, berkeley (boalt), hastings, ucla, davis, usc, santa clara, loyola, usf, san diego, many more...there are dozens of schools. just don't attend an unaccredited one.

as i answered previously, law schools will accept a degree from an online school if the school is fully accredited. but kick butt on the LSAT!

Law schools want to see variety in majors.
there is not an actual "pre-law" major, its usually a specification added on to a major in things like philosophy, history, political science.
Business would be a good major if you want to go into business law.
