I've been lately looking for jobs on Monster and Career Builder and the bulk of their jobs are from Staffing agencies. Are they trustworthy? or should I apply for private companies only?

You can trust them, as in it's safe to send your resume to them. But a lot of jobs they list are old jobs they have already filled. They want as many resumes as possible to fill the jobs that they do manage to come up with, and to show potential client companies how many applicants they have available to choose from. I can't hurt to send your resume to them, but don't count on them.

Well........what they do is send you from job to job. Get mad If you dont wanna stay at the temporary job anymore. . Tell you you have to just stay there and be unhappy because If you leave the temp agency looks bad and unreliable. They take like 3 to 4 dollars of your money until the Temp assignment is complete. So lets just say the company is paying $20 an hour the ageny will pay you like $16 an hour. Then you have to deal with the competiion of all the other people they have sent there. So now its like five people trying to land the 1 permanent position the company may have to offer. The Permanent placement is even worse. They sent me on a interview for a job that didn't even exist yet. Basically they just want to make money off your skills and your education. Thats my experience, but on the other hand my husband got his job through a staffing agency. He's now been with his company for eleven years.

If you would like stability, apply to private companies. If you want to test the waters within a certain field or company, use staffing agencies. Remember staffing recruiters only want to fill positions for their clients, so they could careless if you get the job of your dreams or if you work for 2 months and get terminated without an explaination, after all, you are just a temp.
