What are the health risks of vehicle emissions?

Just seen an advert on tv about passive smoking and so on i just wanted to know are fumes from cars, planes and so on more harmful ?

I moved from a downtown area in Mexico last December to a suburb up in the hills with no traffic and my health has improved 100%. The emissions were terrible, especially the diesel busses since they are not regulated here.
