AVG outperforms McAfee and Norton by a thousand miles.

AVG 7.5 is the highest rated antivirus program today. Norton has not had a new version in years, and both Norton and McAfee are resource hogs, that will slow your computer down until you get rid of them. So, yes, AVG is good enough to get rid of both Norton and McAfee.

It is "good enough" - if you stay away from questionable sites, dont click email attachments, dont use limewire, also have antispy, also have firewall, also have system monitor.

Dont get me wrong. My point is that dont get all caught up on ONE aspect of security. You can get caught with Norton as well. AVG is good, and has lots of updates.

Norton and McAfee are resource (memory/CPU/tasks) hogs.

Avast is another good free one (I've been using for years - never a virus).

AVG is absolutely the best anti virus program and it is FREE. Get it at MajorGeeks.com. You will also find some other great programs there. This is the website that my computer group, Tampa bay Computer society uses when they need an honest great program for something or another.

YES,, get this I am not positive on how it works,, A virus scanner is only as good as its updated database of virus files. So AVG has a large database of customers paying and cheapskates like me, and guru's who hate the way companie's software highjacks your whole system.. Anyway i believe the smart guys who push the envelope in websurfing, downloading, hacking and cracking come acrossed things that arent classified of virus yet.. until they submit them to the experts at AVG then they do whatwever they do,, and a new virus definition is made.. Amen,, I would think $XX for a virus scan then they want you to upgrade,, They just want money... AVG is the Shiz and the nit... Good bless em
John Q Public doesnt need to pay for a firewall, virus scan, or popup blocker,, Oh ya why in the heck pay for AOL? that is for people who arent resourceful, AOL is for another question ....

AVG is not good. RUN!!!! Stay away from anything FREE when it comes to spyware and antivirus. There is a reason why they are free. They are not good!! McAfee is not that good either, but is better than AVG. Norton is better than AVG and McAfee. But only get Norton Systemworks, it's the only good software from norton. Norton is not a system hog like people say. If you want the Elite software out there then get Spysweeper with Antivirus. It catches and removes everything. It covers over 170,600 threats. It's in a league of its own. I've used and tested them all, Spysweeper is 2nd to none.
