Only you can decipher your own dreams. This is fact. However I will tell you what I know about dreams. There are different kinds of dreams. Every interpreter has a different way of grouping them but this way works for me. It is important to write down your dreams first thing when you awaken. Within a few minutes they have disappeared like dandelion spores into the breezes. Make note of your mood when you awaken. Then go on from there. Sometimes my dreams are so long lasting and deep I carry a booklet around with me for when a revelation comes to me. I may look something and remember another thing about the dream. It must get written down or it poofs.

1. T here are prophetic dreams where you see the future. For example, the dreams Joseph saw and took to Pharaoh. They are always in colour and action follows a logical sequence. Sadly it is this sort of thing people think psychics can help with. Only you can work on the symbols. Apparently these are the types of dreams Nostradamus had. He may have written in riddles, but witchcraft was a big problem in those days so he wrote in a confusing manner on purpose.

2. There are release dreams. These dreams are the most confusing of all. These dreams are chaotic, preposterous, disturbing. It is a form of emotional exhaling. These are the most necessary dreams because through release dreams we dispose of the everyday mental and emotional garbage that we collect. Some are silly but many can be nightmares. Despite the stress even nightmares create, they are important for us. They are a good way to work out fear angers frustration and stress. Without the release provided by nightmares we would easily all end up crazy. Usually they are jumbles of images and as turbulent as the negativity they are helping one dispose of.

3. There are wish dreams. These are just as the name says. We dream of what we want or think we want and usually awaken from them with a feeling of satisfaction.

4. T here are information and problem-solving dreams. You fall asleep chewing on a problem and wake up knowing the solution. Everyone has done this at some point or another. You might even wake up knowing something you could not have known before going to sleep. The advice “Sleep on it” is very valid. Did you know the Theory of Relativity came to Einstein in a dream? Or that Mozart received his compositions while he slept? The invention of the light bulb and the sewing machine also came from dreams. Dr. Salk got his ideas for the polio vaccine in a dream.

5. There are astral visiting dreams. These are usually telepathic dreams or astral travel dreams. Often there is the sensation of flying. I won’t lie; these are my very favourite of all. You can visit the living and the dead in these dreams. I know I usually awaken with a smile because some of my most favourite people, including two husbands, went ahead of me. A few weeks ago, around the seventh anniversary of his passing, I had four nights in which I awoke smiling and remembering spending time with my most loved. It was the same feeling I had when we first met and fell in love. I admit, I went to sleep extra early each night because they were so wonderful. Then they stopped.

Lucid dreams can be any of the five types above. When a dream is lucid, you realize within the dream that you are dreaming. When this happens, you can take control of the dream. You can be in control of your own reactions.

A few years ago I went through a few months where I dreamt of houses. Always houses. I would awaken remembering the feel of each house, the light, the curtains, the colours, everything, including the people I met in the dream. I knew only a few actually. When I checked into the symbolism of houses, it said that to dream of a house is to dream of making changes. It meant many other things and they all fit.

Dreams relating to a house often refer to various aspects of the Self. When trying to analyze the house in your dreams, consider also how the house is kept and the condition of it. The rooms in the house relates to facets of your personality. To see a house in your dream represents your own soul and self. Specific rooms in the house indicate a specific aspect of your psyche. In general, the attic represents your intellect; the basement represents the unconscious, etc

To dream that you are entering through a door signifies new opportunities that will be presented before you. You are entering into a new stage in your life, moving from one level of consciousness to another. In particular, a door that opens to the outside, signifies your need to be more accessible to others, whereas a door that opens into the inside, denotes your desire for inner exploration and self-discovery.

However, for the cat lover, cats signify an independent spirit, feminine sexuality, creativity, and power. You may be expressing some fear or frustration especially when something is not going as planned. It is your reaction to the creature more than the cat itself that has meaning; representation is secondary. Almost all people have different interpretations of most symbols; it is up to you to remember how you felt when you saw this cat.

When you want to remember a dream, let me give you an example of how to analyze it. Let us say you dream of the sun. The sun usually represents your father. In dreams there are some archetypal symbols that are fairly constant in meaning. So you see the sun. Was it a weak winter sun? Was it the burning sun of a desert? Was it prominent in the dream or in the distance? Did it cast shadows? Were they long or short? Could you see the individual rays and, if so, what did they strike? Were there clouds nearby or hiding part of it? Where was in relation to the horizon?

You apply the same depth of questions to everything you remember and try to put it together.

I hope this helps you a bit.

1. dreams occur because your brain works at night to "sort and store files" that have been transmitted to it throughout the day.

2. dreams are part of your unconsious mind that allow you to solve problems you may be having.

3. dreams let you know that you are still alive and when you dream your body has been going through the REM cycle, which is extremely important for survival.

I dream about loved ones often that is a great comfort to me as I feel I really talked to them (they are deceased), it has helped me immensley deal with their death and I feel they come to me in dreams where I am more apt to not be scared of them, because for some reason it always seems so normal to talk to them or go somewhere with them in a dream.

I also dream about things that seem to help me sort our things in my normal life.........
