He is in jail for domestic abuse. On me.
I thought I could have things cleaned out and the house ready by the 1st of March. But, with everything going on it is not ready. I would like to paint and some other small repairs. His friend has his power of attorney. They think I should let them list the house the way it is.
They have an attorney. I don't. I can't afford one.
We agreed on a real estate company. Now they want to have a realtor they know list the house. He does work for the company we chose to use. I just don't like the idea of using someone that they know and I don't.

If the house is in his name alone, you have no choice in the matter. If it is in both names, then they cannot force you to do what they want. If your name appears on the title, then you have a right to fix the place up as you see fit to get it ready for sale.

Just because someone has an attorney, don't think you can't win. A lot of attorneys win because the other person is scared and can't afford their own. If needed, check with Legal Aid in your city for free advice.
