Both video & photos are dark, but everything else isn't, so it's not my monitor. I know there has to be some setting that can make it brighter. I don't want to (nor was I able to figure out the last suggested) add a program to fix this. If it's something like a driver setting, please tell me EXACTLY how to change it, I'm driver stupid. Thanks a bazillion in advance.

This works on my work computer, but at home I apparently have an Intel 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chip Set & I don't have these setting options. I tried loading an updated driver but computer won't accept them. Any more help available????? Thanks.

I havent seen the other suggestions but I will give it a shot anyway.
Right click your mouse anywhere on the desktop but not over any icon...choose PROPERTIES...then when the display properties window opens, click the SETTINGS tab. In this new window, you should see a button on the lower right that says ADVANCED........this will open the video graphics tools that are pertinent to your pc's video driver. In this screen you should have options to set your GAMMA, BRIGHTNESS and CONTRAST. If you are having a problem with dark images, I would suggest cranking up the gamma first, ...just a bit...then the brightness. You can open movies or pictures to see if you are happy with them, if not, tweak them again until its just right.
by the way, ....when videos and images become dark, it is a sign that your monitor is having issues. You may not notice it during normal activity but if you plug a LCD monitor into your computer and see the difference, you will understand what I am talking about. I went through the exact same thing......denial and all. I spent 2 years upping my GAMMA settings to compensate for a failing monitor.
Good luck and start saving.
