I need to settle an argument. My boyfriend says that humans can't have red eyes, I on the otherhand beg to differ. I say that albino humans can have red eyes. He says only animals can have red eyes. Who is right me or him?

Yes I know it is a pink (but thats light red). And I looked it up and found about it. I can't wait to tell him about it too. Yes it is actually the blood that makes them that color

Probably a better adjective would be pink instead of red. But you are essentially right. Some albinoes have pink eyes.

It bears mention that this is not necessarily true for ALL albinoes, though. There are several major types of albinism, and there are many albinoes who just have reduced, instead of completely absent, melanin. Likewise, blue eye color is not a melanin-based pigment, so there are many albinoes with blue eyes.

Link 2 is to a website maintained by an albino individual in part for the education of other people on the condition. She calls her eyes 'mauve', but she has lots of pictures of herself so you can decide what you think they look like.

I have heard that albino humans have red eyes, but the only albino human I have known did not have red eyes. His were a sickly pale tan. Of course, he was an albino african-american and that may have made a difference.

The albino humans have red eyes due to the total lack of skin pigment, just like the animals. The blood is what makes them red.

I like the Doctor's answer.

But yeah, a lack of pigment in the center of your eye would cause the blood vessels in the eye to show up more, therefore making them pink.

Albino people generally would have really light eyecolor, since they are really white, and their hair color is close to white, and if you know blonde people have blue/green eyes, you wuld think albino people would have lighter color eyes. I don't think it's possible to have red eyes... It just doesn't go with any hair color.. kind of like having natural green hair...
