if you like museums go to the Getty it's amazing they also have live jazz there and you can have a picnic with your b/f. Or my favorite restaurant is in long beach and on Fridays and Saturdays they have live music it's called la creperie' on second street food is amazing so is the atmosphere and very reasonably priced. Or just go to venice beach and watch all the freaks that never gets old.

There is tons of fun to be had in and around East LA. It really depends on what you and your boyfriend are into. There are tons of things you can do in the day like visiting a museum, going to the zoo, or maybe Griffith Observatory (which just reopened).
If you're still stumped, you can check out some sites that can help you find things to do.

Take a day and visit downtown Los Angeles. If you go to City Hall, they have maps available with places (within walking distance or by a bus/trolley that only costs cents per ride). There's the Cathedral, The Disney Concert Hall, all kinds of museums, lots of shopping (esp bargain shopping on Santee St, Alvera Street, Chinatown, Little Tokyo...yes they're all in downtown...

there is SO much to do in L.A. if you are into museums you should check out the Getty, LACMA. Why dont you travel to the beach go to Santa Monica and shop on third street, explore the fashion district alleys in downtonwn. Go to Sprinkles in Beverly Hills and walk down and around Rodeo. Go walk around Melrose or Hollywood Blvd. Go on a hike at Runyon Cyn Park and view the whole city! there is sooo much to do in this city its ridiculous, you should never be bored here

How about the LA County Museum of Natural History? I love the exhibits with the stuffed real animals. They have a Wolfgang Puck cafe too.

LA has a great variety of things to do. Try visiting Museums, Huntington Library, The Comedy Club. You can also take dance lessons, and do some wine tasting.

GO to Monterey park and experience a different culture. Plenty of shopping and restaurants. YOu'll find some strange stuff in the malls there. Little Tokyo is fun to explore. I don't think you'll think Olvera street is exciting, but who knows. Take a gondala ride in Long beach or kayaking or a mini cruise. Heck make a day out of a trip to catalina.
