I have a platy that gave birth about two days ago but I'm not sure she's done since she is still quite fat and had only 4 fry... She's been in the breeder for about 6 days now.

Not really. As long as the water gently flows through the breeder net it will be fine. You might move her into the tank for a few horus and back again to see if that will stimulate her into having anymore, but usually it's not that far apart for fry to be born.

The answer depends. Do you want her to have more fry? She will, without question, eat the fry she laid if she can. My suggestion is one of two things: Remove her from the breeder and try to raise the 4 she produced or place her in a separate breeder and see if she produces more. The point of both is to save the fry she has already produced. A lot of people assume since the livebearers give birth to live fry, instead of eggs, they're for some reason great parents. They don't recognize their fry as "their" fry, and will eat them without a second glance. They're probably the worst parents you can find in a fish.

Keep in mind that platys will save sperm from males, so she may have a few more batches of babies at any time that she feels is a good time. I have heard of females having up to five births without males. She very well could be pregnant with more. Look for a darkened spot on her abdomen, which generally indicates that they're pregnant.

If she's in good health, she'll produce more babies at some point in the future. She's a livebearer, that's what they do.

What kind of breeder are you using? If it doesn't have filtered tank water running thru it the ammonia levels are probably high. I would at the least give her some fresh water. If she doesn't finish having fry let her back into the tank. Is it possible that she had more and ate them?

Good Luck

The longer she is in the breeder, the more likely she will eat the fry.

If go a long period os tim without swimming in open space, they won't have a will to live and they won't care if they die.
