There are so many dildos out there, you should just ask your friend exactly the kind/type she wants, so you'll get her one that she'll really like.
The least uncomfortable place to buy one would be the internet, because it's discreet and usually cheaper. Here is a site you might want to check out. Maybe you can have your friend pick out the one she wants, and she can send you a link to it so you can buy it for her, but she gets to choose the one she really wants.
